Movie Trailer: Man of Steel

If there is one iconic superheroes that everyone would know, then it would be the Man of Steel, Superman himself.

Well, in 2013, there would be a reboot for the film series. The story goes that Clark Kent, a journalist in his twenties who was adopted as a child by Martha and Jonathan Kent after he was transported to Earth from the dying planet Krypton. Raised with the values of his adoptive parents, he feels alienated because of his unique super abilities and struggles to find his place in life. When the world is attacked, he becomes the hero Superman to protect its people.

While the trailer doesn't have much to see, it is still a wonder to have Superman back in the big screen. I doubt anyone would ever get tired of seeing the greatest superhero of all time.

Here is the trailer:

The movie will have the following cast:
Henry Cavill
Amy Adams
Michael Shannon
Russell Crowe
Ayelet Zurer
Laurence Fishburne
Kevin Costner
Diane Lane
Harry Lennix
Antje Traue
Christopher Meloni
Richard Schiff

Music: The Dark Knight Rises OST

The movie, The Dark Knight Rises, was too exciting for me to comprehend the other day.

I was practically glued to the chair for the whole 2.5 hours.

I didn't realize it initially but the scores used are one of the main factor that make the movie so exciting, in my humble opinion.

Written by Hans Zimmer, the mood that the score brings are so great that there are times when it goes so far away from the limit that it becomes abit disturbing for me. It totally bring me back to that seat in the cinema, while watching the movie. It was exactly the same feeling.

This, is a totally 5 Stars OST. Listen to it if you have time.

01 – A Storm Is Coming
02 – On Thin Ice
03 – Gotham’s Reckoning
04 – Mind If I Cut In?

08 – Nothing Out There
09 – Despair

Movie Trailer: Epic

No! No! No!

This is not the stupid Epic Movie from 2007. That was dumb but this Epic, a movie due to release in May 2013, does look promising.

It is not a grand scale battle, at least not in our size, but it definitely a grand battle nevertheless.

Epic is a computer animated fantasy-adventure based on a children book "The Leaf Man and the Brave Good Bugs" which tell a story about a girl who find herself in a secret world, where she must help a team of fun and whimsical characters to save their world, which also saves the real world. It is going to be a battle between good and evil in the forest.

Cast includes Beyonce Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyfried, Johnny Knoxville, Aziz Ansari, Pitbull, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Blake Anderson and Judah Friedlander.

Movie: The Dark Knight Rises

One world to describe this movie.

Brilliant!

The story was so well written that you won't know what happened until it hit you.

Overall, the movie tell the story 8 years after the end of the last movie. Batman has been missing since then but with the Dent Act, the police has the power to take control of the city and put all the organized criminals behind bars.

Tom Hardy as Bane

However, terror comes once again in a form of Bane. While Bruce Wayne was not interested in wearing the cap after the lost of his love interest, he decided to become Batman once again. Bane is one of the few Batman's villian that would actually defeat the dark knight. He managed to break the back of Batman, just like in the comic. Seeing Bane fight is truly magnificent. You would definitely believe he is capable of defeating Batman.

Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne / Batman

Batman also came across Catwoman in a form of Seline Kyle and while she was initially reluctant, she help Batman in the end to save Gotham City. Anne Harthaway definitely portraits the Catwoman well, being a sexy and agile burglar.

Anne Harthaway as Catwoman on a Bat-pod

Batman vs Bane

This is definitely a must watch movie for everyone but one warning (a good one though), this movie is really long, about 2.5 hours.

Music: Dark Shadows OST

I didnt really watch Dark Shadows. I wasn't that interested in it.

But a friend was promoting the movie so much that when I came across the OST, I guess maybe I could give it a try.

If the OST is good, I might be interested in catching it the next time I have a chance.

Before I start commenting on the songs, let me list them out first:
01. Nights in White Satin - The Moody Blues
02. Dark Shadow (Prologue) - Danny Elfman
03. I'm Sick of You - Iggy Pop
04. Season of the Witch - Donovan
05. Top of the World - The Carpenters
06. You're the First, the Last, My Everything - Barry White
07. Bang a Gong (Get it On) - T. Rex
08. No More Mr Nice Guy - Alice Cooper
09. Ballad of Dwight Fry - Alice Cooper
10. The End? - Danny Elfman
11. The Joker - Johnny Depp

Alright, here is what I got to say about the whole OST.

Apart from the two scores by Danny Elfman and "Top of the World" by The Carpenter, the rest of the songs here totally sucks (sorry for my blunt language). I didnt finished listening to any one of the other songs. It was just not interesting enough for me to the point of being ridiculous. Not even the songs by the famous Alice Cooper could help the OST. They just sucks (sorry again)

Music: Ice Age 4: Continental Drift OST

I have not watch the movie yet but lucky enough to come across the OST.

Composed by John Powell, the man behind the OST for How to Train Your Dragon, Ice Age 2: Meltdown, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaur, Happy Feet, Jumper, Hancock, Bolt and many more, Ice Age 4: Continental Drift's score is definitely sound promising.

It give a sense of adventure, grandeur, and excitement plus action which I didnt hear much from other OST.

Lastly, it actually make me interested in going to the cinema and watch the movie now.

Here are the soundtrack list:
01. Morning Peaches
02. Schism
03. Storm
04. No Exit Gutt
05. Escape from Captivity
06. New Loves
07. Hydraxes / Prison Talk
08. Diversion
09. Pirating the Pirates

When the announcement that they would be doing a remake, I was abit reluctant initially. But when I got to know more that this remake would follow the original short story more closely, I start having second thoughts. What blew my mind is the first time watching the official trailer. The beauty of technology actually makes the overall experience better and now, I can't wait to go and watch it in cinema.

Below is the trailer that I watched. I believe most of you have watched it too. If not, please enjoy!

Android App: SoundHound

Have you ever heard and song on the radio while driving and you like it so much that you want to know what song is it but you don't have the means of finding out what song is that?

Well, for a music lover like me, it happens all the time. I would feel frustrated for missing out on a good song.

But with your smartphone plus an app named SoundHound, missing out on a nice song on the radio is almost in the past. Just download the app and you are almost set to go.

Whenever you heard a new (or old) song that you want to know who is the artist or name of the song, just tap on button on the app and let it listen to the song for a while (usually less than 30 seconds).

Most of the time, after the 30 seconds, SoundHound would tell you what song it that and who is the artist.

As a bonus, it even keep your search history for future reference. But that's not all, if you are rich enough, you can even buy the song via SoundHound.

And with the latest update, the app actually does even more things now.

If you want to check on certain artist or title, there is a section for that.

It also tell you what is hot at the moment, dividing it into "Hottest", "SoundHound Discoveries", "Most Tweeted" and "Just found by fans".

And if ever forgotten what can you do with SoundHound, there is a brief explanation with just a tap of a button.

Guess I haven't mentioned that the basic SoundHound is free (ads supports) but you can upgrade it to SoundHound Unlimited to remove those ads.

Movie: The Amazing Spider-Man

Well, I finally had the chance to watch the movie. My anticipation and expectation is very high after many recommendations from friends who have watched it before me. And it doesn't let me down.

The Amazing Spider-Man is a story about a story about a kid who grows up looking for his father and finds himself.

Who doesn't know the story of Spider-Man? I seriously doubt there are one, unless you are too young to remember. But for the sake of this review, here it is. It is about a boy that got bitten by a spider and from that, he got superhuman power and grow to become the Amazing Spider-Man.

The movie took a different approach in delivering the story and while it may be a bit draggy for some, I felt that the approach suits me well. Seeing Peter growing to become the hero of many, is kinda entertaining.

Initially, we have Peter Parker who goes webbing around, catching criminals, not for the sake of the community but more of the revenge of his Uncle Ben that was killed by a small-time thief.

But when the main villain, the Lizard, first appear in the public, Spider-Man work his magic and eventually found the joy of helping others, and thus, becoming a real hero in the process.

The final battle between Spider-Man and Lizard on top of Oscorp is full of excitement. Spider-Man even got the help from an unlikely allies.

Acting-wise, I must says that Andrew Garfield brings out a very young and immature Peter Parker, which is very good, considering that Peter is still in his high school. Emma Stone is smart and lovely for her part as Gwen Stacy.

Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben is most noteworthy although he no longer said the famous "With great power, comes great responsibility".

The jokes that they made in the movie is well thought off. I really had a good laugh watching their attics, especially Peter Parker with his street-smart conversation here and there...

Music: Believe - Justin Bieber

My feeling for Justin Bieber has always been neutral. While I don't really understand the Biebermania I do acknowledged that some of his songs are pretty nice.

When I heard that his new album, "Believe" coming out, I wasn't looking forward for it. But days after the album was launched, I heard of some very good comments on the album. It got me curious but not to the point where I want to get one of the album for myself, yet.

Then, I came across his album by accident and guess it is inevitable.

Here I am, reviewing the album as I am listening to it.

I must give a thumb up for "All Around the World", "Catching Feelings", "Fall", "Be Alright"and "Believe". These songs are the most enjoyable songs in the whole album. It catches my attention, making me want to listen to it again and again.

I also enjoyed "Die in Your Arms", "Thought of You" and "One Love". Nice music and lyrics.

But at the same time, I must admit that I don't really understand "Boyfriend", "As Long as You Love Me" and "Right Here". They just sound odd or not the type of songs that I would be expecting from him. Another way that I might say is that it is just not his style. Would be happy if you could enlighten me on these songs but I doubt you can make me change my thoughts about them.

Here, I must acknowledge that Justin's vocal are getting better and more mature than what it used to be. The feeling that it brings is something better than I expected.

Here is a track listing for Believe:
01. All Around the World (feat. Ludacris)
02. Boyfriend
03. As Long as You Love Me (Feat. Big Sean)
04. Catching Feelings
05. Take You
06. Right Here (feat. Drake)
07. Fall
08. Die in Your Arms
09. Thought of You
10. Beauty and a Beat (feat. Nicki Minaj)
11. One Love
12. Be Alright
13. Believe
14. Out of Town Girl
15. She Don't Like the Lights
16. Maria
17. Love Me Like You Do

Movie; Journey 2: the Mysterious Islands

Truth be said, I wasn't putting much hope on this movie when it first come out. I didn't even bother to check it out when it hit the cinema a while back. But when I came across the DVD, somehow, I couldn't resist checking it out. Maybe I was too bored, wasn't able to get out of the house due to a sprained ankle.

Anyway, back to the review. I only know two facts about the movie. One, it is the sequel to the first movie "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" which I enjoyed pretty much back then. And two, it got Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock in it. Don't get me wrong. I like Dwayne Johnson from the time he was still in professional wrestling and I still like him. But I realized that alot of time, he has been stereotyped and the action based actor and I could see that many of his movie is about the same.

Okay, now to the movie. I think the setup of how they actually get to the island is a very good idea.

Sean, the nephew from the first movie, somehow got a code that he believed was sent by his grandfather who has been missing for the past two years. He got an unlikely help from his stepfather, Hank, to decipher it, which turn out to be an island near Palau. Sean want to go and search for his grandfather himself but Hank ended up going with him.

Once in Palau, they went to the port to look for a boat that would take them to the coordinate but ended up with a helicopter tour guide, Gabato and his daughter, Kailani. The helicopter get caught in a major vortex and crashed, waking up on the island.

The island turn out to be very similar to what was written in the three books, which was the clue from the code.

They wander around and eventually found Sean's grandfather but an unexpected turn force them to leave in a hurry.

Sean shows great courage and managed to won the heart of Kailani.

Six months later, during Sean's birthday, the grandfather drop by for a visit and give him a book titled From the Earth to the Moon, hinting another adventure (sequel).

Overall, the storyline is not bad but I felt it is abit rushed. The visual are definitely stunning, loving it every bit.

Android App: Waze Social GPS and Traffic

Waze was introduced to me by a friend and the idea is so good that I instantly fall in love with it.

Waze is a cool social GPS driving and navigation app that connect you to other drivers. It may not sound much with that statement alone but wait until you read what it does for you.

It help you to outsmart traffic, save time and gas (available in US only) and improve everyone's daily commute.

How does Waze do it? Easy with a community generated real-time traffic and road alert which includes accidents, hazards and police traps (road blocks and speed cameras).

The latest version of the app actually perform pretty good as a navigator, being able to bring me back home with the best possible route. Before the navigation start, it actually provide several possible route for me to choose from. And while you are driving, it would automatically re-route if certain condition on the road has changed so that you would have the best route to get to your destination.

To make it more fun, Waze actually reward users with points, for certain things that they user do. Task like reporting a traffic jam or a police road block would earn certain amount of points and there is a leaderboard where you can see your ranking compare to your friends who are using Waze as well. You can even customize your Waze Avatar

As I would not be able to screen capture my own Waze while driving (that is a very dangerous thing to do), I am using the screen image I got from Waze's site on Google Play for this review.

Oh, did I mentioned that Waze is free? Well, it is. Awesome, right?

Music: The Amazing Spider-Man OST

I haven't really seen the movie yet (due to an accident that have my ankle sprained) but I managed to came across the soundtrack and couldn't resist checking it out first. Written by James Horner, who also work on Titanic and Avatar, the scores are not bad, but not too good either.

There are time when I could feel the "grandness" of the movie but some of the tracks are just not worth mentioning. However, these "grandness" has actually increase my expectation for the movie itself. I guess I should be going for the movie some times this week since the swelling is getting better now. (So, get ready for review on the movie soon)

Here are the list of the score just for your information:
01 – Main Title (Young Peter)
02 – Becoming Spider-Man

04 – Hunting For Information

Android App: Darts

This is the first game app that we are reviewing. Awesome, right?

We were actually abit bored and just thought of getting a game to kill some time. Looking thru the list, we found this game call Darts and download/install it straight.

When we started playing, we don't really know what to expect. We have seen others playing darts but we don't really know how the game works.

There is only one mode of play and that is to versus a computer opponent.

Anyway, we just click on the play button and we were greet with a dartboard in the middle of the screen.

When the game start, three darts would appear on the lower left of the screen (your side). There would be an announcement that you will be starting the game and in the next instance, one of your dart would be moved to the lower centre of the screen. Now, you are ready to throw your dart to the board.

To throw your dart, you would have to press on a button on the right of the screen and once you start pressing, a power bar would appear. The longer you press, the higher the bar would go which translate to how much strength you use to throw the dart.

The computer and you would take turns to throw your darts and every turn, you would get three darts.

The objective of the game is to complete your twenty targets (one part of the twenty parts of the dartboard that randomly move around every time you hit your target) faster than your opponent (computer). Also, while hitting your targets, you would be rewarded with points as well. You can get double or triple the points if you managed to hit the small section on the outer and middle of the section. Once you complete your game, your score would be displayed and you would know if you managed to beat the high score or not.

Unexpectedly, the game is very addictive. We got to the point were we tried to play our best game to beat our previous best.

Best of all, this app is completely free of charge. Yupe, awesome it right. Just search it in Google Play Store and you would find it for sure.

Android App: Onavo Count

Isn't it great if data (3G) connection for your mobile phone is unlimited?

You can surf the internet or stream some movie/drama online all the time.

Unfortunately, most things in this world are not free. So does your data plan.

One problem that I used to have, is not knowing how much data connection I have already use and whether should I continue using it or stop, so that I could use it for emergency, just in case.

Well, this problem was eventually solved for me by Onavo, the people behind this brilliant mobile app that let you manage your data plan by using an app call Onavo Count.

When you first install this app, you would have to provide it with a few basic information. Info such as you data plan limit (mine is 3GB) and when should the counting be reset to zero (usually the date of your bill). If there would be a charges for over-usage, there is a column for that too.

The main page of the data has 4 columns, each one showing different important information. The first column would let you see how much of data that you already use anytime of the month, since the information is calculated in real-time basis. It would tell you if you are managing your data plan well or you are over-using it and have to slow down abit to make sure you stay within the limit of your data plan.

If you press the second column, you would be able to see the data plan advise. It would show you, using a graph, the amount of data you have used on per week basis.

The third column would show you a breakdown on how much data has been used by each app on your smartphone. It would even show the data usage on weekly basis, just to give you an idea how data consuming it is.

The last column would show your usage profile as a whole. It would show the average and would tell you if you are doing great or not.

Best of all, this app is completely free of charge. Yupe, you read it right. Just search it in Google Play Store and you would find it for sure.

Thoughts: Rating system

I have just updated the rating system for mobile apps in this blog. It would consists of the Usefulness, Stability, Fun factor, Attractiveness, Value for Money and whether it met with my expectation of it. Hope it would give you a better idea on the app itself.

Now, I am thinking on how to update the rating system for musics and movies. Any idea?

Music: Brave OST

After watching Brave during the weekend, I find myself remembering alot of the scores from the movie. These scores are perfect for the movie and prompted me to search for them soon after.

"Touch the Sky" and "In the Open Air" are definitely my favourite.

"Learn Me Right" brings me back to the opening of the movie. Such a nice feeling.

Some of the scores might be forgettable but if you have watched the movie, you would know how to appreciate these scores.

One thing that I realized is how frequent the blowpipes are being used in the score. Guess it has something to do with the fact that the movie is based on the medieval Scottish era. Still, they dont really overtook the role of the other instruments but more of just blend in.

"Song of Mor'Du" is another catchy one. Telling the story of Mor'Du by singing it is definitely something different and worth noticing...

With the movie still fresh in my head, listening to the score is like watching the movie all over again.

Here are the soundtrack song list:
01. Touch The Sky (Feat. Julie Fowlis)
02. Into The Open Air (Feat. Julie Fowlis)
03. Learn Me Right (Feat. Birdy and Mumford & Sons)
04. Fate And Destiny
05. The Games
06. I Am Merida
07. Remember To Smile
08. Merida Rides Away
09. The Witch’s Cottage
10. Song Of Mor’Du
11. Through The Castle
12. Legends Are Lessons
13. Show Us The Way
14. Mum Goes Wild
15. In Her Heart
16. Noble Maiden Fair (A Mhaighdean Bhan Uasal)
17. Not Now!
18. Get The Key
19. We’ve Both Changed
20. Merida’s Home

Music: Overexposed - Maroon 5

Overexposed is the fourth studio album by American pop rock band, Maroon 5. Most people would have known them by now due to their recent hits like "Move like Jagger" and "Payphone". But for those who have known them earlier, songs like "She will be Loved", "This Love" and "Sunday Morning". Well, I must admit that I am one of the earlier fans and when I got to know that this new album is coming out, I got excited!

Here is a track listing for Overexposed
01. One More Night [3:39]
02. Payphone (Feat. Wix Khalifa) [3:51]
03. Daylight [3:45]
04. Lucky Strike [3:05]
05. The Man Who Never Lied [3:25]
06. Love Somebody [3:49]
07. Ladykiller [2:44]
08. Fortune Teller [3:23]
09. Sad [3:14]
10. Tickets [3:29]
11. Doin' Dirt [3:31]
12. Beautiful Goodbye [4:15]

For me, some of these songs are great but one or two of them are totally out of my grab. Since the release of the second single for this album, "Payphone" has been playing in my head day and night. Usually, I would get tired of songs stuck in my head but so far, "Payphone" is still very refreshing. Guess it would be around for a while longer.

Another song that I like from this ablum would be "Lucky Strike". The beat is nice and I dont mind listening to it as well.

"The Man Who Never Lied" also struck a chord with me for I think the lyric is good.

"One More Night", their first single from this album is a okay for me but for the rest, I dont really remember. Guess it was not worth remembering, at least for me.

Movie: Brave

I have always been a fan of Pixar's production. Even Cars, which I was initially skeptical, becomes a favourite of mine now.

So, when I heard about Brave many moons ago, I couldnt contain my excitement. I realize that my best movie experience comes when I dont know what to expect and when the movie hit the cinema, two of my friends and I just bought the ticket and went into the movie to watch it, never know what to expect from it.

The story goes that a young Scottish princess, Merida, who are very skillful with bow and arrows, defies an age-old custom and created chaos to her kingdom and family. When things really get out of hand, she finally realizes her mistake and seek to amend the situation.

The movie has alot of action and many many cute moments. Suitable for everyone. Another must watch! Oh, and look out for the bears.

When I first started using a smartphone, I realized that the battery drain empty very fast. A friend recommended me to use some apps to help "manage" the battery life. I tried it for a while but dont really like it because it needs alot of customization. Needless to say, I uninstalled it a few days afterward.

For me, an app that would help me extend my battery life should be something very simple. Just a push of a button and a few inputs, everything would be ready.

Simple wish, but very hard to fulfill because many of these apps are too complicated for my simple mind. At least until I find this app call Battery Defender by Infolife LLC. Even though it is still in beta version, it works perfectly to my needs.

To turn it on, press the big round button at the top right. General policy is for most of the time. Night policy is for during the night when you go to sleep and not touching your phone while the low battery policy is for, well, during low battery time (adjustable in setting). Simple, right?

The few square buttons below are for wifi, data connection, GPS and bluetooth. Blue colour if it is on. And the last button would bring you to the setting page (as below).

The setting page basically explain itself. I just love the "sleeping time" setting, can adjust according to what time I sleep and what time I wake up.
